Sunday 22 February 2015

22 February. We have had serious snow this week - the worst in 30 years.  Consequently, work slowed even more. It only lasted a day or two, but was bitterly cold. Our builder has returned from holiday and fixed the problem of water in the basement.  It is not that we have leaks but condensation. Fixed by knocking a small hole into the end wall.
The main events this week are that the outside rendering has been finished and the marble edging has been fitted on the upstair terrace;

We are really pleased with the render detail.

The beautiful marble (not done justice in the photo) finishes the edges  really well.
The electricians were working when we visited today and the plasterer is due to start work tomorrow. When he finishes, the floor can be poured, then the under floor heating laid followed by the tiles.  How much of this will happen this week is anyones guess as yet  more rain is forcast.

Sunday 15 February 2015

February has been an absolutely dreadful month.  Colder and wetter than anyone can remember. We have had storms of Biblical proportions and hailstones that were still evident 12 hours after falling, they were so huge.

 We have been up to the house on a few occasions and taken some photos but as most work had to take place inside, not a lot to show on the blog. A few leaks have become evident but as our builder has been away on holiday, nothing much could be done. He returns today and thankfully most of our furniture looks OK so far.  However, made a decision today that I should up-date, 'warts and all'.
You will see that the garage/basement door has been fitted and we finally have a roof,. This too is leaking but not too much of a worry as it is mainly cosmetic and we have not yet paid the roofer. Generally, the house itself seems to be pretty dry but there are few 'areas of concern' in our bedroom. Probably better that these are obviouse now when we can do something about it, rather than when we move in.

The finished roof.

Leaks in our bedroom.

Leaks in the roof.

Stairs to the roof have been finished.

Inside rendering almost completed.

The house looks very grey and bleak today.  Takes a lot of imagination to see us living there in 6 weeks time.

 The main thing that has happened this week is that measurements for windows and doors have been taken and the styles and price agreed. Work on this will commence next week and they should be ready to be fitted at the beginning of March. The weather is set to improve a bit this week (although I can hear distant thunder as I type) so perhaps there will be more to report by next weekend.
